Norwegian Lundehund Skills
The Lundehund’s unusual characteristics were very useful in a very particular kind of hunt. The may toe gave the dog a good foothold in situations when it had to balance on steep cliffs or slippery rocks.
Norwegian Lundehund Personality
Lundehunds make wonderful companions in the right homes. However, those planning to get this particular breed should think twice and consider whether Lundehunds will fit in well with their lifestyle. They are a primitive breed, which means they share several habits with wild dogs like foxes and wolves. They sometimes hide food in different parts of the house and react noisily when they detect any changes or alterations to their present environment. However, Lundehunds are also very intelligent and are a cheerful and inquisitive bunch. They can be protective of their home and their people, and rely more on barking than aggression. They are intolerant of rough treatment though they can be fine with children as long they are raised with them from puppyhood.
Exercise Needs
They are very active dogs and they need a lot of exercises and at the very least, long walks.
Living Conditions
They are active dogs who would be perfect for homes where there are things going on to keep their active minds stimulated. This is very important because when they get bored, they will amuse themselves – often at the expense of the owner’s home and belongings.
Grooming Requirements
They do not require much grooming. They only need to be brushed during shedding season, otherwise hardly at all. They do not need much bathing, as their coats seem to be resistant to dirt. Bathing once or twice a year is usually enough.
Health Issues
The lifespan of a Norwegian Lundehund is considered unpredictable because of the Lundehund Syndrome – the collective term for a group of gastrointestinal disorders that include bacterial overgrowth and protein-losing enteropathy which result in the intestine’s abnormal protein loss.
